New Logos for Volkswagen

Volkswagen have launched a new website, as well as an updated logo and 'R' badging.


Volkswagen has launched a new brand identity, comprising of a new 2D logo and website redesign. The design of the logo has been simplified and "reduced to essential elements" for a cleaner appearance. Volkswagen's communications will now also be more colourful and warmer, with a "focus on 'people".

A sound logo will also be introduced by the brand for the first time in it's history, to be used in both commercials and inside its vehicles.

Geraldine Ingham, Head of Marketing at Volkswagen UK, said: “It’s an exciting time for Volkswagen, with a wave of stunning cars being launched in the near future, including the eighth-generation Golf and the first model in the brand’s electric revolution, the ID.3.

“Called ‘New Volkswagen’, this change is represented by a new version of the iconic Volkswagen roundel and a more dynamic, digitally-friendly corporate identity. There’s no better way to signify this powerful change in the company than a significant refresh of our logo and branding, as well as the way in which we communicate with the world.”


Not only has the company logo been updated, by the classic R symbolism adorned by many performance-focussed Volkswagen's has been redesigned. The German manufacturer descibes the new logo as "modern, distinct and sleek", allowing it to be perfectly malleable for a variety of media types.

The slim lines and gentle curves contrast to the elongated diagonal line, which Volkswagen says "underscores the brand's overall progessiveness".

Klaus Bischoff, Head of Volkswagen Design, explains: “The R marks the athletic apex of our model program and the R logo serves as an expression of both aesthetics and sportsmanship. At the same time, it is gaining in terms of both clarity and charisma, as is the new Volkswagen brand logo.”

Jost Capito, Managing Director of Volkswagen R emphasises: “The new logo for the R models and the R-Lines also goes hand in hand with the realignment of the Volkswagen R brand. Our entire team is intensely working on the brand and product image and we are looking forward to continuing to roll these out in the coming months.”
