NEW Mercedes-Benz GLA

The smallest Mercedes SUV model has received a full makeover for 2020.

New GLA Front

In spring 2020, Mercedes will launch the new GLA, which has had a complete design overhaul both inside and out.

On the exterior, fresh new light design echoes that of its older brother, the GLC, whilst the new chrome embellished grill adds sporty design flair to the front. At the back, Mercedes has incorporated its latest style of taillights, whilst simplifying the design to feature strong lines and minimalist architecture.

New GLA Back

Inside, the GLA now features the same high-quality interior that can be found in its hatchback sibling, the A-Class. Dual screens protrude from the centre of the dashboard, sized at 7” with the option to spec up to 10.25” depending on trim level. MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) platform is included as standard, allowing users access to voice commands as well as other personalisation touches.

New to the segment is Mercedes’ car wash function. This feature, taken from the flagship GLS, closes all windows, mirrors and sun roofs and switches off the rain sensing wipers. It will also set the climate control to air-recirculation and turn on the front 360o camera. When the car accelerates beyond a set speed, the function is deactivated.

New GLA Interior

The GLA will be offered with a choice of petrol and diesel engines, configurable with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Entry-level petrol engines (the 200) will get 163hp and 250NM of torque, which is good for a 0-62mph time of 8.7 seconds.

Later in the car’s life, a Plug-In Hybrid will join the mix, likely to be the same unit from the A250e A-Class. On the opposite end of the scale, there will be a GLA 35 4MATIC AMG model too, producing 306hp and 400NM of torque for performance figures of 5.1 seconds to 62mph, and a top speed of over 150mph.
